几个月前，我们发现有几只小猫经常出没在我们房子周围。大家知道，加拿大的冬天是非常寒冷的，很多小动物其实是无法撑过冬天的。因此我们决定将车库门打开一条缝，在车库的一个角落放上暖气片和纸箱，再把衣服铺到里面，就让他们每天在车库里吃饭，还能有个暖和点的地方休息。
一段时间以后，我们发现有一只黄白相间的小猫（后来我们给他取名：元旦），他每天都会按时来吃饭，甚至有时会提前到车库等着。但是他的脖子上有一条项圈，上面还有一个铃铛，一走路就会叮铃叮铃的响。因为这个铃铛，他是无法捕食的，甚至躲避猎食者都是很困难的。所以即便我们给他提供了临时避寒所和食物，但对他来说，生活仍是困难重重。
随着时间的推移，我们与元旦的关系也在发生着变化。最初，它对人类有着深深的戒心。每当我们进入车库时，它总是会迅速逃离，仿佛我们是一种威胁。但我们并没有因此放弃，而是继续每天定时在车库里为它们提供食物和避风所。我们的坚持似乎逐渐打动了这只小猫。渐渐地，它开始在我们出现时不再那么急忙逃走。有时，甚至会在我准备食物时，从车库的一个角落好奇地观察。这时我就会温柔的跟他说说话，尽管保持距离，但我能看出他眼神中的一丝好奇和期待。
就这样，我们和这只小猫之间的关系在不断加深。这周的一天，我进入车库时，元旦又是已经提前在车库等待了。我开开门，元旦抬头看到是我，便慢悠悠的向外走了几步，坐在了一个离我不远不近的地方静静地看着我。过了一会，他竟自己向我这边走了几步，坐在了离我更近一点的地方观察我。直到我把食物放在他跟前，他也没有跑开，而是等待了几秒后就开始吃饭了。
元旦的变化让我非常感动。这不仅仅是源于他对食物的渴望，更是因为他感受到了我们对他的关爱，它感受到了温暖和安全。元旦从一个被遗弃、对人类充满戒心的小生命，到现在能够在人类的陪伴下安心进食，甚至把这里当成了一个家，这个过程无疑是漫长且不易的。这段时间的经历再次让我感受到了动物的情感同样丰富而细腻。它们能够感受到爱与关怀，并且在得到足够的安全感后，愿意慢慢打开心扉，接受我们的帮助和陪伴。我们不仅给了元旦一个温暖的避风港，同时也收获了无价的信任和友谊，这些也都将成为我们生命中宝贵的经历与记忆。
A few months ago we noticed a few kittens hanging around our house. As we all know, winter in Canada is very cold, and many small animals cannot survive the winter. So we decided to open the garage door a crack, put a radiator and cardboard boxes in a corner of the garage, and put clothes inside, so that they could eat in the garage every day and have a warm place to rest.
After a while, we discovered a yellow and white kitten (later we named him: New Year’s Day). He would come to eat on time every day, and sometimes even come to the garage in advance to wait. But there is a collar around his neck with a bell on it, which jingles whenever he walks. Because of this bell, he cannot hunt, and it is even difficult to avoid predators. So even though we provided him with temporary shelter and food, life was still very difficult for him.
As time goes by, our relationship with New Year’s Day changes. Initially, it was deeply wary of humans. Whenever we enter the garage, he always flees quickly as if we are a threat. But we did not give up and continued to provide them with food and shelter in the garage regularly every day. Our persistence seemed to gradually impress the kitten. Gradually, it began to run away less hastily when we appeared. Sometimes, I’ll even watch curiously from a corner of the garage while I prepare food. At this time, I would talk to him gently. Although I kept a distance, I could see a trace of curiosity and expectation in his eyes.
In this way, our relationship with this kitten continued to deepen. One day this week, when I entered the garage, New Year's Day was already waiting in the garage in advance. I opened the door, looked up and saw it was me, then slowly walked out a few steps, sat in a place not far or near me and looked at me quietly. After a while, he actually took a few steps towards me and sat closer to me to observe me. When I put the food in front of him, he didn't run away. Instead, he waited for a few seconds and then started eating.
I was very moved by the changes on New Year's Day. This is not only due to his desire for food, but also because he feels our care for him, and he feels warmth and security. On New Year's Day, from a little being who was abandoned and wary of humans, to now being able to eat with peace of mind in the company of humans, and even treating this place as a home, this process is undoubtedly long and not easy. This experience once again made me feel that the emotions of animals are equally rich and delicate. They can feel love and care, and after getting enough sense of security, they are willing to slowly open their hearts and accept our help and companionship. Not only did we give New Year's Day a warm haven, but we also gained priceless trust and friendship, which will become precious experiences and memories in our lives.
